Getting slowly back to the miniature scene. I started by crocheting something simple: a cover for the baby in the house built after WW2.

Rintamamiestalon fiksausta - Fixing my 1:18 scale house
Rintamamiestalon fiksaus on jatkunut. Aloitetaan katosta. Alkuperäinen katto oli vimpula eikä muutenkaan kovin siisti. Musta, hiekkapaperista tehty huopakatto sai väistyä alumiiniteipistä tehdyn peltikaton tieltä.
I've been fixing my 1:18 scale house. Let's start with the roof. The original roof was wonky - it had to be renewed. The old, black felt roof made of sanding paper had to give way to the new tin roof made of aluminum tape.
Uuden katon työstämistä. / Working on the new roof.
Valmis katto. /The roof is ready.
I added a couple new items in the kitchen: the flower pot on the table and a trivet by the hood over the stove. I've made the food and crockery cabinet and it's a very typical one of its era. A better photo is available below
Keittiön ulkoseinällä olevan ikkunan alle tein ikkunalaudan ja lisäsin seinälle kellon.
I made a window sill under the window of the kitchen outer wall and added a clock on the wall.
Although the house has electricity installed, the dressmaker still has to use an oil lamp.
Yläkerran makuuhuoneeseen lisäsin vielä sermin.
I added a screen in the upstairs bedroom.
Now I'm fairly happy with the end result; it's time to move on and start making other minis.

Rintamamiestalo - My dollhouse in scale 1:18
I finished working on my house in scale 1:18 seven years ago but I was never completely happy with it, especially with the two back walls and some things upstairs.
Originally, I wanted to have the back walls also as doors to be able to see the rooms at the back of the house; this was not possible until a few weeks ago. But I listened to warnings of not being able to keep the house standing properly if I did that. It wasn't very good advice as the house is made of sturdy plywood and would stay well together even without both the front and the back walls; the rooms would only collect dust, though. And it really doesn't make any sense building a dollhouse with no visibility to two rooms.
Now I tore the back walls off and also had to re-wallpaper parts of them. It's almost unbelievable how well printed paper (=wallpaper) had stuck to the wall. All I had used was light paper glue that usually dries over the years and any paper or cardboard comes off all by itself. Not in this case. I had to scrape tiny pieces of wallpaper off with different knives, just like taking off wallpaper in real life. As you can probably see, there are patches of dried glue at the bottom of the house - still some more cleaning work to do.
I also hid the electrics from view. See the upper right corner.
If you are puzzled what this 'rintamamiestalo' is, it's a typical Finnish house built after WW2. Wikipedia gives the following definition in English: "A type of detached [wooden] house; built after the Second World War for the families of soldiers who fought in the battlefront". Typically, the house has 1.5 stories with a kitchen, lounge, and one bedroom downstairs and two small bedrooms upstairs. The literal translation is 'battlefont soldier's house'. In short, the house gives a peek to life in the late 1940s.
Talon takaosaa. Nyt makuuhuone ja eteinen ovat näkyvillä.
This is now the back of the house. You can see and access the downstairs bedroom and the entrance.
Virkkasin yläkerran sänkyyn uuden päiväpeiton.
I crocheted a new bed spread on the upstairs' bed.
Grandma is resting. This is one of the few dolls I made myself. And what a youthful grandmother she turned out to be despite her gray hair!
Lastensänky sai vauvan ja uuden virkatun peiton. Takana oleva puna-valkoraitainen matto on uusi.
The crib has now a baby under a new, crocheted blanket. Also the the white and red rug further back is new.

Tässä sisäänkäynti taloon. Eletään 1940-luvun loppua.
Entrance to the 1:18th scale house. This house is set at the end of 1940s.
Nurmikenttää, kaivo, puuvarasto, pieni kasvimaa ja pyykit kuivumassa.
The lawn, well, wood shed - a very important place when houses were heated only by burning wood, a small vegetable patch and the washing drying on the line.
Aita on Tiimarin valmisosista. Osa laudoista oli kiinnitetty aitaelementteihin vinksin vonksin. Aidommin näköistä ehkä?
The fence is made up of ready made elements that were not exactly perfect. Maybe this looks more realistic?

I've been working on the yard for my 1:18th scale house, both dating back to the late 1940s - a short time since the war and rationing still in effect. The house was heated with wood and many houses didn't have indoor plumbing but fetched water from the well in the yard. I guess my house would also require an outhouse but I can't bring myself to make one. Let's just pretend that it's somewhere further away... Click on the photo to see a bigger version of it.

Yläkerran ompelutila näytti hieman valjulta. Tein sinne silityslaudan ja -raudan ja lisäksi huoneeseen tulee alla oleva lipasto kankaineen, kaavoineen ja lankoineen.
The sewing area upstairs looked a bit empty. I made a 1:18th scale ironing board and an iron. The cupboard below with the fabrics, patterns and threads will also be placed in the same room.

RM: Melkein valmis - 1:18 house: Almost there!
Takaseinä on paikoillaan ja sähkömies on vetänyt sähköt talon alakertaan ainakin. Yläkerran makuuhuoneessa näyttää olevan vielä öljylamppu sängyn vieressä vaikka katkaisimet ovatkin paikoillaan.
Talon nuorelle rouvalle jäi mukava ompelutila yläkertaan.
Tänne mahtuu hyvin asiakkaatkin sovittamaan vaatteita. Lastenvaunut odottavat nurkassa käyttäjää.
