Kioski: Lippiksiä - Seaside stall: Caps

Caps

I made a couple of baseball caps and a visor for my beach stall.

Sini wearing the visor

Sini is wearing the visor which turned out a little too big but it's keeping her face well in shade.

Ahti with the orange cap

Ahti joutui poseeraamaan ensin oranssi ja myöhemmin vihreä lippis päässään.
Poor Ahti had to first pose wearing the orange cap and later with the green one.

Kaksi uutta nukkea - Two new dolls

Helmi ja Aarre (Pearl and Treasure)
Näillä nukeilla on luonnetta.

Whenever I've added dolls into my dolls' houses and roomboxes, I've usually made do with standard dolls you can buy in any miniature shop or I have left the roomboxes without any dolls at all. I've also made dolls myself a couple of times with varying success. At the Suuri snadi miniature fair last autumn I bought Alfred and also these two dolls that I named Helmi (Pearl) and Aarre (Treasure); I just love Finnish first names that mean something! Anyway, both these dolls have character.

Tutustu Alfrediin! - Meet Alfred!

Alfred employed by Olaf at Café Varma

Olaf palkkasi Alfredin apulaisekseen Varman kahvilaan. Olaf onkin paiskinut yksin töitä kahvilassa jo kahdeksan vuotta vaikka aluksi hänen piti vain tuurata tytärtään Varmaa. No oli aikakin saada apua!

Olaf at Café Varma hired Alfred to help him out in the coffee shop. Olaf has been working in Café Varma alone for eight years although initially he was just supposed to substitute his daughter Varma for a while. It was about time to get some help!

Alfred and Olaf

Uusi nukke on Päivin Variksen käsialaa ja Olaf on puolisoni ja minun tekemä.

The new doll was made by Päivi Varis and obtained at the Suuri Snadi - the Model Making and Miniature Show this weekend. Olaf was made by me and my hubby.

RM: Isoäiti nokosilla - 1:18 house: Grandma taking a nap

Isoäiti nokosilla

Yläkerta on vielä hieman tyhjä. Isoäiti on kuitenkin kavunnut nokosille Rauhan ja Taiston makuukammariin.

The upstairs of my 1:18th scale house needs a lot of furniture. Grandma, though, has managed to climb up the stairs to take a nap in her son and daughter-in-law's bedroom.

RM: Olohuone ja asukki - 1:18 house: Lounge and an inhabitant

Rauha olohuoneessa

Rintamamiestalo on saanut ensimmäisen asukkaan, Rauhan.

My 1:18th scale house has a new inhabitant, Rauha (=Peace). A common woman's name of that era.

Onko Halloween etuajassa? - Do we have an early Halloween?

Vasemmalla istuu ensimmäinen 1:18 skaalan itsetehty nukke - et varmaan arvannutkaan?!?. Ei tullut ekakertalaiselle Helmeä... suhteet ovat ihan vähän pielessä, mm. pää on aivan liian iso eikä sitä pienennä massiivinen nuttura, vaikka nuken kokonaispituus on kohdillaan: 9 cm nukke olisi 162 cm pitkä nainen oikeassa elämässä. Iho on myös liian sileä vanhaksi naiseksi.

Olisko tämä vaikka Taimi sillä epäonnistumisesta huolimatta en aio jättää nukentekoa tähän. Seuraavalla kerralla voisin saada aikaan vaikka Tertun; tavoitteena on tietysti Helmi tai Unelma.

Taimin vieressä istuu teollisesti valmistettu Lundby-nukke, Varma, Varman kahvilan omistaja. Kokoa nukella on 10 cm eli oikeassa elämässä 180 cm pitkä nainen. Ei ehkä ihan tavallista sekään...

Yes, this is my first doll in scale 1:18. She didn't turn out to be a jewel in the crown but nevertheless, I managed to put her together, give her hair and dress her. Yes, her head is way too big for the scale although her height is quite correct: a 9 cm doll would be a 162 cm tall woman in real life. For an old woman, she also has incredibly smooth skin.

The other doll on the right is an industrially manufactured Lundby-doll in the same scale. She is a 10 cm doll and in real life she'd be 180 cm tall woman. Some of the Swedes are really tall but c'mon, 180 cm...

Despite this failure, I'm not discouraged. I will make another and better doll in the near future. Wish me luck!

Kehonosia - Body parts

Kerhossa aloitimme opettelemaan nukentekoa, tällä kertaa ammattilaisen neuvoilla.
Kaikista haasteista huolimatta nukenteko on hauskaa puuhaa!

Nukenosia

The next project in our miniature club is to make a doll or two or however many you have time to do! This time, however, we're instructed by a professional doll maker, which is great! I need dolls into my 1:18th scale house and here are the body parts for the first one; a woman, probably not a very young one. Also her legs look like they belong to two different persons... I'll try and make a new pair. Yes, I know real people are not perfect either, far from it, but the legs are just way too different. I can live with the hands, though.
Making dolls from Fimo is no easy task but it's really a lot of fun!

Meribiologi - The Marine Biologist

Nine years ago (!) I dug into Fimo and made my first doll ever. I had no instructions none what so ever. The hair I used was artificial, super-curly and I dressed her into a wrap-around dress what she's been wearing since then. See the photo above.

Onko yhteydet heikot?

Meribiologi

Although this doll is no piece of art, I didn't have the heart to throw it away. I wanted to straighten its hair by immersing it into hot water but the curls didn't disappear. In the end I had a bald doll in my hands. I dressed her into pyjamas, got her a pair of sandals in her feet, made her new hair from very thin yarn and wrapped a scarf around her hair. Meet my marine biologist who is tapping away on her computer, not looking very happy, though. The connection is most probably very poor!

Unkarilainen nukke - Hungarian doll

Unkarilainen nukke
Originally uploaded by Millimari

Nuken kasvot on käsinmaalattu, vaatteet valmistettu huolella alusvaatteita myöden. On paljon helmikirjontaa hameessa, liivissä ja päähineessä.
The face of the doll is hand-painted, and all her clothes are made with a lot of care. The dress, vest and the headdress have lots of beads embroidered on them. The doll also has underwear.

Samalla toivotan Kunnen uudeksi lukijaksi, toivottavasti viihdyt!

Welcome - Tervetuloa

Japanese dolls
Welcome, Lara, to my blog, I hope you will enjoy it!

These small Japanese dolls are part of my collection of dolls wearing national costumes. If you look closely you can see a cocktail stick behind the doll on the right to indicate the size of the dolls. They are approximately 1.5 cocktail sticks tall.

Nämä japanilaiset nuket kuuluvat kansallispukuisten nukkejen kokoelmaani. Nuket ovat n. 1,5 cocktail-tikkua pitkiä.
