Uusia termoksia ja telttailua - New thermoses and camping

Kerhoilu käynnistyi elokuussa ja teimme heti termoksia kynistä ja veitsiä muovisista hammastikuista.

The miniature club meetings kicked off in August. In our first meeting we made thermoses out of pens and used plastic toothpicks to make knives. Some of the thermoses can be made by simply shortening e.g. a felt pen and it will look like a real thermos. For the knives, all you have to do is to shorten the plastic toothpick and paint it. That's all.



Yksi termoksista ja toinen veitsistä pääsi heti Ainon käyttöön telttaretkellä. Taitaa olla lounaan valmistelu menossa vaikka Aino näyttääkin siltä kuin olisi juuri kömpinyt ulos teltasta. Hänen ystävänsä nukkuu edelleen sikeästi teltassa.

One of the thermoses and knives was taken by Aino to use on her camping trip. She might be preparing lunch although it looks as if she had just climbed out of the tent. Her friend is still fast asleep inside the tent.

Uusi lelu Leikkihuoneeseen - A new toy to the Children's playroom

Viimeisellä kerhokerralla tehtiin pieni lelukärry. Se sopi oikein hyvin Leikkihuoneeseen.

In this spring's last club meeting we built a tiny toy pull cart. It suits well in my Chidren's playroom.

Takka pahvista - Fireplace from cardboard

Mukava ilta takan rakentamisen merkeissä kerhossa. Pahvia, tapettia, maalia, liimaa, patterilla toimiva tuikku ja helmiä. Siinä tarvittavat aineet takan rakentamiseen minimaailmassa.

Cardboard, wallpaper, acrylic paints, brush, battery-operated tea light, and some beads. That is all it takes to build a fireplace in the miniature world.

Kukkapaketteja - Flower bouquets

Kerhossa tehtyjä. Näihin saa ujutettua hyvin vähemmän mallikelpoisia kukkia.

We made some flower bouquets wrapped in cellophane in our club meeting.

Pylväitä - Flower pedestals and columns

Drosten kuusikulmaisesta suklaapakkauksesta saa helposti kukkapylväitä. Leikkasin paketin kahteen osaan, pohjamaalasin ja päällystin valkoisella liimakalvolla ja koristeellisella ääriviivatarralla.

Löysin myös varastoistani vuosia sitten tekemäni samanlaisen mutta kullanvärisen pylvään. Cocktail-tikku on antamassa osviittaa koosta.

For two flower pedestals, I used Droste's hexagonal chocolate packet. I cut it in two pieces, painted, covered with white adhesive foil and with a decorative piece of an outline sticker.

And later when I was going through my stash, I found another, golden color flower pedestal that I made already years ago. The cocktail stick in the image is there to give an idea of the size.

Valaisin korvakoruista - Lamp with earrings

Kerhossa tehtiin valaisin, jossa kupuina on imukupit ja valoina korvakorut. Valot saa pois päältä kevyesti vääntämällä korvakorun patteria.

In our first club meeting this year we built a lamp with suction cups as lamp shades and earrings as lights that can be turned off by lightly turning the battery of the earring.

Halsteri - Hinged gridiron

Kerhoillat alkoivat kuun alussa ja ensimmäisenä aiheena oli halsterin teko rautalangasta; sen vääntäminen otti kuitenkin koville sormilleni. Niinpä virkkasin ruutuvirkkausella halsterin ohuesta, valkoisesta virkkauslangasta (0,6 mm koukku). Valmiin työn maalasin hopeavärillä.

Grillissä on hiillostumassa lohta.

In our first club meeting this fall the idea was to make a hinged gridiron from wire. Unfortunately, twisting the wire was a little too hard for my fingers so, I decided to crochet one in filet crochet style. I used very thin, white crochet yarn (0.6 mm hook) and painted the finished gridiron with silver color.

Salmon is being barbecued on the grill.

Kerho starttaa jälleen - The club meetings are starting again

Tällä kertaa aiheena oli patjan teko hankaussienistä (ohje löytyy YouTubesta). Vaikka ohje on hauska, tällä kertaa tein valmiiseen superlonin palaan patjan. Pala on tullut aiemmin hankkimani sängyn mukana.

The club meetings began yesterday. The topic was 'How to sew a mattress' from kitchen sponges (instructions are available on YouTube); it's actually a no-sew project. Great instructions and fun to make but as I already had a piece of foam that came with a mini bed I once bought, I decided to make that piece into a mattress.

Tarjottimia - Trays

Helpohko tapa tehdä tarjottimia on tehdä aukko paksuhkoon pahviin ja painaa aukkoa suurempi ja ohuempi pahvinpala aukkoon. Sen voi muotoilla tarjottimeksi. Tässä muutamia lakattuja tarjottimia. Kerhoillan satoa.

A simple way to create a tray is to cut a rectangular hole in a piece of thick cardboard and insert a slightly larger piece of thinner cardboard on it and to shape it into a tray. Below are a couple of examples of lacquered trays made during club meetings.

Ruokasoodaa (taas) paremmalla menestyksellä - Baking soda (again!) with much better results

Ensimmäinen ruokasooda-akryylimaalikokeiluni ei oikein onnistunut. Lopputulos oli sutta ja sekundaa. Toinen kerta toden sanoo, joukossa on voimaa ja taikasana on gesso. Nimittäin kerhoillassa maalattiin muovikorkkeja ruokasoodan ja akryylimaalin sekoituksella onnistuneesti kun ne ensin oli pohjamaalattu gessolla.Toimii!

You probably remember the first time I experimented painting with the mixture of baking soda and acrylic paint and it didn't turn out too great. The second time around surrounded by clever miniature enthusiasts it worked like a dream. We did this in one of our club meetings and now I have three usable pots. The magic word was gesso.

All you have to do is give a thin coat of gesso to all your plastic caps (or other small plastic items) and only after it has dried, apply the mixture of paint and baking soda. Add just a little bit of soda to the paint and test it on a piece of cardboard to see how granular it becomes. Eh, voilà!

Räsymatto - Rag rug

Kerho toimi aktiivisesti koko viime syksyn ja viimeisellä kokoontumiskerralla ennen joulua teimme räsymaton langanpätkistä. Mukavaa puuhaa.

Our club was very active in the fall. During the last meeting before holidays we made rag rugs from short pieces of yarn. It was fun doing this.

Retropannunalunen paperipillistä. Alkuperäinen ohje löytyy Maria Malmströmin kirjasta Pienessä mittakaavassa.

Below is a retro trivet made from paper straws and painted. Cut tiny srips from the straw and shape them into triangles, tear drops, and circles. Paint and glue together.

Kerho on täysi-ikäinen - The club is of age

Tasan kolme vuotta sitten juhlistimme Kauniaisten nukkekotikerhon 15-vuotista taivalta. Tänään kerho täyttää 18 v. ja on nyt täysi-ikäinen. Koronasta huolimatta kerhoiltoja on jatkettu mutta nyt etänä.
15-vuotisjuhlia varten oli jokaiselle tulostettu kuva-albumiaihio kerhosta ja siellä tehdyistä mineistä. Tässä se on nyt vihdoin koostettuna.

Exactly three years ago we celebrated the 15th anniversary of our doll's house club. Today the club "became of age". Despite the Covid-19, we have continued to hold our meetings every three weeks but online; I must say it works very well.
A miniature print of our club meetings and the miniatures we've made over the years was given to all club members three years ago. I finally put the photo album together - better late than never!

Kutistemuovi - Shrink plastic

Tässä on ihan ensimmäinen kokeilu kiiltävälle ja läpinäkyvälle kutistemuoviarkille. Väritin kuvan pastelliliiduilla, joten ei mennyt ihan niinkuin Strömsössä. Paras värikynävaihtoehto olisi ollut vedenkestävä tussi mutta niitä ei nyt ollut saatavilla. Puuvärikyniäkin voi käyttää mutta kiiltävä pinta hylki niitä. Lopputuloksesta tuli modernin taulun kaltainen teos. Sain porattua rei'än valmiiseen työhön käsikäyttöisellä poralla ja pujotin ripustuslangan "taululle", mikä sijoittui Taidegalleriaani. Kuva alla.

This is my very first experiment with a glossy and transparent piece of shrink plastic. The original size of the drawing was 13x12 cm and this piece shrunk in the oven to 5x5 cm. Water-resistant felt pens would've been the best choice for this type of shrink plastic but as I didn't have any nice colors available, I used pastel blocks for coloring. Not the best option, though. The end result looks a bit like a modern painting. I managed to drill a small hole at the top of this hardened plastic for hanging it in the Art Gallery. See the photo below.

Koreja paperista - Baskets from paper

Kerhokokoontumiset käynnistyivät viime viikolla ja teimme paperista syksyisiä koreja. Omani ei onnistunut mutta tässä kuvia muiden kerholaisten töistä.

The first club meeting took place last week. We made baskets from paper but I didn't manage to finish mine. The baskets in the photo below were made by other club members.
