Uusia termoksia ja telttailua - New thermoses and camping

Kerhoilu käynnistyi elokuussa ja teimme heti termoksia kynistä ja veitsiä muovisista hammastikuista.

The miniature club meetings kicked off in August. In our first meeting we made thermoses out of pens and used plastic toothpicks to make knives. Some of the thermoses can be made by simply shortening e.g. a felt pen and it will look like a real thermos. For the knives, all you have to do is to shorten the plastic toothpick and paint it. That's all.

Uusia termoksia ja veitsiä

Yksi termoksista ja toinen veitsistä pääsi heti Ainon käyttöön telttaretkellä. Taitaa olla lounaan valmistelu menossa vaikka Aino näyttääkin siltä kuin olisi juuri kömpinyt ulos teltasta. Hänen ystävänsä nukkuu edelleen sikeästi teltassa.

One of the thermoses and knives was taken by Aino to use on her camping trip. She might be preparing lunch although it looks as if she had just climbed out of the tent. Her friend is still fast asleep inside the tent.

Makuupussi - Sleeping bag

Although the weather is not yet optimal for camping, I am already continuing with my "adventures" in that world and with equally poor success as last spring. Well, not everything can always go smoothly, not even in the miniature world.

The mini tent I introduced in May last year was made without a pattern, imitating the orange tents of the 1970s and before our doll's house magazine [Nukkekotilehti] appeared with its camping theme and tent patterns and instructions on how to construct one.

I think that old tents were often made of cotton and they did not hold rain without a separate plastic cover if you wanted to stay dry. When I was a child, I remember that my parents always took a huge piece of plastic, the same size as the tent, on camping trips in case it rained.

Although it is still cold, at these latitudes at least, you nevertheless need a sleeping bag. I used a small piece of quilted fabric from my mini fabric stash to sew it. The pattern on the right side of the fabric was quite wild - I left it on the inside. I also sewed a zipper on the side of the bag even though it does not match the fabric color. It actually sticks out like a sore thumb!

At first, the ready sleeping bag looked way too big, almost fit for a Barbie doll but it is just perfect for this male doll in scale 1:12 even though it is not very pretty.

I sewed a more girly sleeping bag and a matching pillow.

Telttaan mahtuu juuri ja juuri kaksi henkeä. Tosin teltta näyttää olevan romahtamassa...

Halsteri - Hinged gridiron

Niinpä virkkasin ruutuvirkkausella halsterin ohuesta, valkoisesta virkkauslangasta (0,6 mm koukku). Valmiin työn maalasin hopeavärillä.

Grillissä on hiillostumassa lohta.

In our first club meeting this fall the idea was to make a hinged gridiron from wire. Unfortunately, twisting the wire was a little too hard for my fingers so, I decided to crochet one in filet crochet style. I used very thin, white crochet yarn (0.6 mm hook) and painted the finished gridiron with silver color.

Salmon is being barbecued on the grill.

Miniteltta - A tent in miniature

Muutama kuukausi sitten lähdin suunnittelemaan minikokoista telttaa.

A few months ago I started to make a miniature tent. My project was interrupted by life and I was able to continue only now in May. Below is the first version of a tent. Not exactly a gem but it was my first attempt.

The tent is up

Telttaan mahtuu hyvin yksi 1:12 kokoinen nukke mutta kahdelle on jo vähän ahdasta. Takaosassa on myös ikkuna.

There is enough room for one 1:12 scale doll but it is a little crammed for two. There is also a window at the back of the tent.

Interior

Eikä teltassa mahdu aikuinen istumaan suorassa. Toden tuntuista, eikö?
And an "adult" cannot sit up straight inside the tent. Feels very real, right?

Crammed

Well, when my tent was finished, I received the [the Finnish] Doll house magazine where one of the themes was camping with instructions on how to make a mini tent.
