Rintamamiestalo - My dollhouse in scale 1:18

Sain Rintamamiestaloni mittakaavassa 1:18 valmiiksi seitsemän vuotta sitten, mutta en ollut koskaan täysin tyytyväinen siihen, etenkään kahteen takaseinään ja joihinkin yläkerran ratkaisuihin.

Alunperin halusin takaseinistäkin aukeavat, jotta voisi nähdä talon takaosan huoneet. Kuuntelin kuitenkin muiden varoituksia siitä, että takaosan aukeavat ovet voisivat vaikuttaa talon pystyssä pysymiseen, joten liimasin takaseinät paikoilleen. Neuvo ei ollut kovin hyvä, sillä talo on valmistettu tukevasta vanerista ja pysyisi kyllä kasassa myös ilman etu- ja takaseiniä; huoneet keräisivät kuitenkin vain pölyä. Ja ei todellakaan ole mitään järkeä rakentaa nukketaloa ilman näkyvyyttä kahteen huoneeseen.

Olen nyt käyttänyt aikaa Rintamamiestalon kunnostamiseen. Irrotin talon kaksi takaseinää ja aion tehdä niistä aukeavat, kuten etupuolella. Osa tapeteista piti myös uusia. Uskomatonta, kuinka hyvin tulostettu paperi (=tapetti) oli tarttunut seinään. Olin käyttänyt vain kevyttä paperiliimaa, joka yleensä kuivuu vuosien kuluessa ja mikä tahansa paperi tai pahvi irtoaa itsestään. Ei tässä tapauksessa. Piti rapsuttaa pieniä tapettipaloja pois veitsellä, ihan kuin oikeassa elämässäkin. Kuten varmaan huomaat, talon alaosassa on vielä kuivunutta liimaa - vähän siivoustyötä tehtävänä.

Lisäksi siistin sähköhässäkät piiloon yläkerrasta (oikealla ylhäällä) ja lisäsin muutamia uusia esineitä.

I finished working on my house in scale 1:18 seven years ago but I was never completely happy with it, especially with the two back walls and some things upstairs.

Originally, I wanted to have the back walls also as doors to be able to see the rooms at the back of the house; this was not possible until a few weeks ago. But I listened to warnings of not being able to keep the house standing properly if I did that. It wasn't very good advice as the house is made of sturdy plywood and would stay well together even without both the front and the back walls; the rooms would only collect dust, though. And it really doesn't make any sense building a dollhouse with no visibility to two rooms.

Now I tore the back walls off and also had to re-wallpaper parts of them. It's almost unbelievable how well printed paper (=wallpaper) had stuck to the wall. All I had used was light paper glue that usually dries over the years and any paper or cardboard comes off all by itself. Not in this case. I had to scrape tiny pieces of wallpaper off with different knives, just like taking off wallpaper in real life. As you can probably see, there are patches of dried glue at the bottom of the house - still some more cleaning work to do.

I also hid the electrics from view. See the upper right corner.

If you are puzzled what this 'rintamamiestalo' is, it's a typical Finnish house built after WW2. Wikipedia gives the following definition in English: "A type of detached [wooden] house; built after the Second World War for the families of soldiers who fought in the battlefront". Typically, the house has 1.5 stories with a kitchen, lounge, and one bedroom downstairs and two small bedrooms upstairs. The literal translation is 'battlefont soldier's house'. In short, the house gives a peek to life in the late 1940s.

I crocheted a new bed spread on the upstairs' bed.

Isoäiti lepäämässä. Olen tehnyt nuken itse ja tulipa siitä nuorekas isoäiti harmaista hiuksista huolimatta!

Grandma is resting. This is one of the few dolls I made myself. And what a youthful grandmother she turned out to be despite her gray hair!

Lastensänky sai vauvan ja uuden virkatun peiton. Takana oleva puna-valkoraitainen matto on uusi.

The crib has now a baby under a new, crocheted blanket. Also the the white and red rug further back is new.
